Job Title: Data Architect
Location: Remote (U.S. Eastern Time core business hours)
Contract Type: B2B (Contractor)
Travel: Up to 10%
Salary: Gross, to be determined based on experience
Time Off: 10 public holidays per year (vacation and sick leave are unpaid)
Overview
We are seeking an experienced Data Architect with strong pharmaceutical and regulatory expertise to support Regulatory Strategy and Intelligence initiatives. This role requires excellent English communication skills (minimum C1 level), deep knowledge of cloud-native architecture, and a proven ability to lead technical design efforts within a highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities

Partner with Product teams, J&J Technology Services (JJT), and architecture stakeholders to design scalable, flexible, and supportable technical systems.

Develop detailed architecture documentation including:

Business context diagrams
-
Process overviews
-
Data flow diagrams
-
Application and integration architecture
-
Data models and infrastructure architecture
-
ML/MLOps architecture
-

Ensure architecture aligns with Regulatory, Enterprise, and R&D tech strategies, standards, and patterns.

Drive scale through reusable integration patterns, intelligent automation, and cloud-native design.

Capture architectural decisions using J&J-standard tools (LeanIX, SAXpress, Asset Management, Draw.io, AMT, Confluence, MS Teams).
Required Education & Certifications

Bachelor’s degree in a technical, engineering, or scientific field.

AWS Certified Solutions Architect (required)

AWS Well-Architected Framework (preferred)
-
AWS Certified Machine Learning – Specialty (preferred)
Required Skills & Experience
-
5+ years as a Solution Architect in pharmaceutical development.

Strong understanding of Pharmaceutical Regulatory Affairs domain, including capabilities, data, content, and terminology.

5+ years in integration design and implementation (REST APIs, Kafka, ETL, API gateways, data streaming).

Experience with content management systems and structured RDBMS.

Cloud-native architecture experience on AWS (GCP/Azure a plus), including compute, storage, networking, and integrations.

Experience designing systems compliant with GxP, HIPAA, GDPR, and other regulatory frameworks.

Proven ability to lead technical discussions, resolve ambiguity, and drive architectural decisions.

Strong track record of delivering highly available, scalable, and compliant solutions for global user bases.
Preferred Technical Expertise

Proficiency with deep learning frameworks: TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar.

Solid understanding of NLP and Large Language Models (LLMs).

Familiarity with training, evaluating, and optimizing ML models.

Ability to apply AI/ML solutions to complex business problems.
Soft Skills

Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal) – minimum C1 level.

Ability to simplify complex technical topics for various audiences.

Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams and managing stakeholder relationships.

Comfortable contributing to IT product roadmaps and surfacing technical requirements.
